Digital Forensics for Accountants and Auditors

Digital evidence support for forensic accountants, auditors and financial advisers working on fraud, disputes and insolvency.

How We Support Accountants

  • →Preserving financial records. Forensic imaging of computers, servers, accounting systems and email so the records can be relied on.
  • →Deleted and altered records. Recovering deleted files and establishing when documents and spreadsheets were created, changed or removed. See deleted data & timelines.
  • →Email and communications. Tracing the communications behind transactions under review, including Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace accounts. See email & cloud forensics.
  • →Business email compromise. Establishing how payment details were changed and which accounts were accessed.
  • →Joint expert work. Digital findings that sit alongside your financial analysis in reports for the court.

Working Together

Forensic accountants follow the money; we establish what the devices and accounts show. We work to your scope, report to you or the instructing lawyers, and keep the matter confidential.

Typical Matters

Suspected internal fraud, disputed business valuations, shareholder and partnership disputes, missing or altered financial records, and payment redirection through a compromised mailbox. The digital findings answer who created, changed or deleted a record and when, which supports the financial analysis you are already doing.

Common Questions

Can you recover deleted accounting records?+

Frequently. Deleted files, earlier versions and backups can survive on computers, servers and cloud accounts. How much is recoverable depends on how long ago it was deleted and how the system has been used since.

Do you work with cloud accounting systems?+

Yes. We preserve exports and audit logs from cloud platforms and link them to activity on the devices and email accounts involved.

Can we prepare a joint report?+

Yes. Our digital findings can sit alongside your financial analysis in a single report or in separate reports prepared for the court.
